Crossmore Wind Farm, Co. Clare
We are constructing a wind farm in Crossmore, near Lissycasey in County Clare. Site access works commenced in August 2023 and turbine deliveries are due to begin in the summer of 2024.

Crossmore Wind Farm was originally granted planning permission in 2009 and granted a planning extension in 2019. The consented wind energy development will consist of seven turbines with a maximum tip height of 126.5m. The wind farm will have a 35-year operational life from the date of commissioning.

February: Concrete deliveries and road works
Concrete deliveries for turbine foundations will follow the N68 onto the L6180 to access the wind farm site. The first delivery of the day will arrive around 04.30 with further deliveries continuing into the early afternoon. Extended working hours are required to ensure all concrete is delivered in one single pour, which typically lasts around 10 hours. Some of the construction team may stay on site overnight to monitor the drying process. Schedules may change.
CORRECTION: The next concrete pour is scheduled for Tuesday 20th February.

More on grid connection road works
February 2024: Underground cable road works from Booltiagh substation along the L2048 are due to start on 19th February. These works will allow the wind farm to be connected to the national grid.
There will be a 24-hour road closure along this 600m section of road and diversions will be in place for approximately 4 weeks.
Road closure and road opening licenses have been agreed with Clare County Council. The local Bus Éireann School Transport Office has been notified and will be kept updated.

Turbine delivery route
Turbine components will be transported along the national and regional road network from Galway. It is anticipated that components will travel along the M18 to Ennis before travelling via the N68 through Lisseycasey and onto the L6180 to the site entrance.
To accommodate abnormal loads, some permanent and temporary upgrade works are proposed along this route. Part of the wind farm construction works will include permanent upgrades to the L6180 local road.

Community benefit fund
We want local people to see and feel the benefit of renewable energy through our wind farm benefit funds, which support community groups, voluntary organisations and environmental projects situated near our wind farms.
The Crossmore annual community benefit fund will be designed to meet the needs of the local area and will be administered by an independent charitable foundation on behalf of Energia.
Local community groups will be invited to apply for the first round of project grants after one year of wind farm operation.
